The Kittens - Poem
Spring is finally upon us
Taking all our breath away
And yet winter’s coldness
Still lingers and around us sways
An elderly man wrapped in a scarf
Stopped amidst the street
Admiring the blooming flowers
He nibbles on a tiny treat
He stares so longingly
Into the street-shop window
Then glances at the hungry kittens
Squeaking, all piled up below.
What shall he do, I wonder
As he tumbles out of warmth
His scarf is now a basket
The kittens hidden in the cloth
The man stood up, quite slowly
Heaving under the weight of time
Despite this random act of kindness
Some would still come it a crime
Spring is finally upon us
Taking all our breath away
Yet refills us with hope and love
As we look towards kinder days.
